Thermal Structure of Protoplanetary Disk around Herbig Ae Stars Based on Millimeter and Sub-millimeter Observations
Abstract
It has become evident that the presence of extrasolar planetary system is ubiquitous in our galaxy as search for exo-planets progresses.
However, a number of fundamental problems regarding planet formation still remain and it is crutial to unvail the disk structure that is responsible for planet formation as detail as possible. Multi-CO line observations in 12CO(J=1-0), 13CO(J=1-0), C18O(J=1-0), 12CO(J=3-2), and 13CO(J=3-2), toward three protoplanetary disks around intermediate mass pre-main-sequence stars (Herbig Ae stars), HD 163296, HD 31648, and HD 169142, were conducted and double-peaked profiles, which are a decisive characteristic for disks in rotation were successfully detected. Taking advantage of different optical depth (absorption coefficient) for each CO line and applying disk model, we could derive the vertical temperature distribution in the disk about 100 AU away from the central star; 10 – 20 K in the interior and 30 – 40 K in the upper surface of the disk. This kind of picture is consistent with the passive disk characteristic predicted by the disk theory. Since this kind of thermal structure is seen in all of the disks, it is thought to be common for protoplanetary disks.

A Keplerian Circumbinary Disk around the Protobinary System of L1551 NE
Abstract
We will present our recent results of high-resolution (~0.7 arcsec) SMA observations of L1551 NE, a Class I protobinary system located in Taurus. The 0.9-mm continuum image of L1551 NE shows a compact (~100 AU) emission component associated with the south-eastern protostellar companion, Source A, whereas the north-western companion, Source B, locates at the outskirt of the continuum component. In addition, “U-shaped” continuum components located at the northwest and southeast of Source A are seen, comprising a ~600-AU scale “circumbinary disk”. The 13CO (3-2) and C18O (3-2) line emission show a clear Keplerian rotating motion in the circumbinary disk centered on Source A, and does not show vrot ~r-1 rotation and infalling motion. The implications and the possible applications of the Keplerian circumbinary disk will be discussed.

Search for Transition from Protostellar Envelopes to Keplerian Disks
Abstract
Keplerian disks have been widely found around T Tauri stars, which are often called “protoplanetary disks”. It is, however, unclear how Keplerian disks are formed in the early stage of star formation. To study the formation and growth of Keplerian disks around protostars, we have been conducting SMA observations toward a sample of Class 0 and I protostars. We measured the rotational velocity of molecular gas around protostars as a function of the radius from 100 to 2000 AU. We found that on an ~1000 AU scale younger protostellar sources tend to exhibit slower rotational motion than more evolved sources, and there is a hint that the gas motion around protostars likely evolves from the rotation with a conserved angular momentum to Keplerian rotation. By combining our current results with the forthcoming Nobeyama 45 m observational results, we will be able to reveal the rotational profile at radii from 100 to 10000 AU. Such a complete rotational profile can show the transition from protostellar envelopes to Keplerian disks and how the angular momentum is transported from large to small scales.

Mapping the Dark Matter with recent redshift surveys
Abstract
Fundamental plane distances from the 6dF Galaxy Redshift Survey are fitted to a model of the density field within 200/h Mpc.
Likelihood is maximized for a single value of the local galaxy density, as expected in linear theory for the relation between overdensity and peculiar velocity. The dipole of the inferred southern hemisphere early type galaxy peculiar velocities is calculated within 150/h Mpc, before and after correction for the individual galaxy velocities predicted by the model. The former agrees with that obtained by other peculiar velocity studies (e.g. SFI++*). The latter is only of order 150 km/sec and consistent with the expectations of the standard cosmological model and recent forecasts of the cosmic mach number, which show linearly declining bulk flow with increasing scale.
Prospects for extending this work include the WALLABY 21 cm survey and the TAIPAN optical redshift survey. The prospects for a 1% measurement of the Hubble Constant (and its impact, together with CMB measurements, on neutrino physics) will also be discussed.
