Study of the origin of the cometary volatiles
Abstract

Planet migration and gap opening in self-gravitating protoplanetary discs
Abstract
Gravitational torques between the planet and its host disc result in orbital migration of the planet and affect its subsequent evolution. Studies of migration of planets formed by core accretion (i.e. late during the disc evolution) have identified two main types of planet migration (fast/slow), depending on the mass of the planet. The discovery of massive planets orbiting at large distances from the host star suggests that at least some giant planets may form early-on during the disc evolution via disc fragmentation. Such planets will interact with a relatively massive (self- gravitating) disc. I will discuss how Jovian planets interact with self-gravitating discs, what are the effects of such interactions (inward migration, gap opening, and planetary mass growth), and how these depend on the disc thermodynamics. I will present global hydrodynamic simulations of planet-disc interaction and planet migration, and discuss whether signatures of such processes could be observed.

Abstract

RMHD Simulations of Protostellar Collapse: Early Formation of Circumstellar Disks
Abstract
Circumstellar disks are natural by-products of star formation processes, but their formation is yet unclear despite extensive theoretical and observational studies. The key to understand disk formation is angular momentum transport during protostellar collapse. Typical star forming clouds are strongly magnetized, and magnetic fields play a dominant role in transporting angular momentum. In fact, angular momentum transport by magnetic fields are too efficient and it is difficult to form a circumstellar disk in the early phase of star formation.
This problem is called the magnetic braking catastrophe, and has been actively studied. Because star forming clouds are cold and dense, the ionization degree is so low that non-ideal MHD effects such as Ohmic dissipation and ambipolar diffusion are important. Using 3D radiation MHD simulations with these non-ideal MHD effects, we demonstrate that these non-ideal MHD effects can avert the magnetic braking catastrophe and enable disk formation in the early phase of star formation, even before formation of a protostellar core, indicating that stars and disks form essentially in parallel and co-evolve. The formed disks are initially small, but it is consistent with recent interferometric observations which suggests that circumstellar disks should be small in the early phase of star formation. I will also discuss some perspectives for future observations of young circumstellar disks, especially with ALMA.
