- “Massive Galaxy Evolution at the Peak Epoch of Cosmic Star Formation: the warm gas and stellar perspective”
- Abstract
- Spatially- and spectrally-resolved studies have provided new and unique insights into the physical and dynamical processes that drive the star formation and mass assembly of galaxies since as early as a few billion years after the Big Bang.
I will review recent key progress in our understanding of galaxy evolution from state-of-the-art optical and near-IR observations, including integral field spectroscopy (with instruments such as SINFONI and KMOS at the ESO VLT), and HST imaging and slitless spectroscopy. I will discuss implications on the nature, star formation properties, feedback mechanisms, and life cycle of galaxies at the heyday of massive galaxy formation, and will highlight emerging science questions that future facilities will enable us to address. - 連絡先

- 「ＳＴＡＰ細胞事件を取材して」
“The STAP cell research scandal” - Abstract
- 新たな万能細胞として昨年１月に華々しく登場したＳＴＡＰ細胞は、科学的検証の結果、既存の万能細胞であるＥＳ細胞（胚性幹細胞）であったことが明らかになりました。一方、誰がなぜ、どのようにＥＳ細胞を混入させたかという真相は解明されないまま、幕引きとなりました。日本でも有数の研究機関、理化学研究所を舞台に起きた研究不正事件は、社会の大きな関心を集め、日本の科学界を揺るがしました。元々存在しなかった幻の細胞が、なぜ一流科学誌で論文発表されるに至ったのでしょうか。また、疑義発覚後の主要著者や理化学研究所の対応は適切だったでしょうか。一連の取材の経緯を振り返り、この事件からくみ取るべき教訓について考えたいと思います。
