- Gaia Sky: A 3D visualisation of the Gaia Catalogues
- Abstract
- The aim of the ESA Gaia mission is to chart the three-dimensional positions and motions of about 1 billion stars in our Milky Way. Gaia Sky is an open-source, multi-platform, real-time, 3D, astronomy software being developed in the Gaia group of the Astronomisches Rechen-Institut (ZAH, Universitat Heidelberg) to visualise these positions and motions. We will give an overview of the software features and catalogues which have already been released for the Gaia Data Release 1 and which are under current development for the Gaia Data Relase 2. After briefly touching some technical aspects of the Gaia Sky implementation, we will present some educational and scientific use cases.

- Star-Planet Interactions and the Dawn of Exo Space Weather

With more than 3600 exo-planetary systems discovered as of today including more than 500 planets orbiting very close (within 10 stellar radii) to their host star, it is now becoming urgent to characterize star-planet interactions for such close-in systems.
Extending our
knowledge of the solar system and Sun-Earth relationships to these quite different exo-systems requires to develop theoretical and numerical tools that can deal with the large diversity of stellar rotation rates, activity levels and magnetic topologies, stellar wind properties and planet’s characteristics. In this seminar I will discuss the recent progress we have made in modeling, stellar wind and star-planet interactions using 3-D MHD simulations and/or theory to assess dynamical tides and/or magnetic torques and what we have learned on the space environment surrounding exo-systems and their secular evolution. - 連絡先
