- News from the Joint Institute for VLBI in Europe: from z = 0 to z > 5
- Abstract
- Joint Institute for VLBI in Europe (JIVE) is a central operational institute of the European VLBI Network (EVN). Established in 1993, it offers a wide range of support to the European and Global VLBI networks, their users, and conducts a variety of R&D projects and astronomical research.
I will give a brief review of these activities and illustrate them by the currently conducted projects. These include the development of e-VLBI – a modern “brand” of VLBI exploiting real-time wide-band fibre cable links between telescopes and processing centres. I will also present results and illustrate ongoing efforts in the area of radio astronomy experiments with space science and planetary missions, e.g. ultra-precise VLBI tracking of planetary probes.
A part of the presentation will be dedicated to VLBI studies of extremely high redshift sources. These studies aim at investigating astrophysical properties of AGN in Early Universe and assessment of these objects as potential cosmological probers.
Returning back from the high-z to local Universe, I will present recent results and ongoing efforts on search and indications on existence of water maser emission in the Saturnian system. - 世話人の連絡先
