- what powers the lyman alpha blobs?
- Abstract
-
In this talk, I will present our recent work about lyman alpha blobs (LABs). ATCA 20cm radio emission and Herschel PACS and SPIRE data were investigated towards the four LABs in the protocluster J2143-4423 at z=2.38. Among four LABs, two sources (B6 and B7) are obviously detected in the FIR, show extended emission over linear sizes of 160 to 240 kpc.
The estimated redshifts of 2.2+/-0.35 for B6 and 2.35+/-0.22 for B7 are constant with the redshift of the Ly alpha emission, indicating both FIR sources are indeed associated with the LABs. The extended FIR emission in B6 and B7, and high star formation rates strongly favour star formation in galaxies as the major powering source for the Lyman alpha emission in these LABs. However, the other two LABs, B1 and B5, are likely driven by the AGN or other sources of energy still to be specified, but not by star formation. - Facilitator

- Study of Active Galactic Nuclei with X-Ray Observation
- Abstract
- I will introduce the basic approach to the study of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) with X-ray, which is emitted when the gas falls into a deep gravitational potential well of a supermassive black hole. There are many interesting topics and open questions in the AGN field (e.g., a broad iron-K line coming from close to a supermassive black hole, X-ray emission from jets, and timing analysis of X-ray data). I would like to explain them on the basis of my personal interest. I also talk about my latest results obtained by comparing the nuclear structure between radio-loud and radio-quiet AGNs.
