Title
Resolving the Extragalactic Background Light with the Multifield Deep ALMA Data
Abstract
Submm galaxies (SMGs) are key for understanding the dusty-side of star-formation activities at high redshift. SMGs are probably major sources contributing to the extra-galactic background light (EBL) in the submm band, but the EBL is not fully resolved, due to the low sensitivity and limited spatial resolution of the previous submm observations. We thus explore the faint SMGs with the 29 pointing deep ALMA data, which is the largest data to date, at Band 6 and 7 that allow us to reliably investigate faint SMGs with the FIR star-formation rate of ~20-100 M_sun/yr, which is comparable to those of optically-selected galaxies, such as BzK galaxies. Exploring the high sensitivity and spatial resolution of ALMA, we have identified 26 faint SMGs that are about 2 times larger than the previous ALMA studies. Combining the bright SMGs data in the literature, we derive the number counts at 1.2mm in the wide range of flux densities, 0.1-10.0 mJy. Based on the reliable number counts of the SMGs, we discuss the SMGs’ contribution to the EBL and the scenario about the fainter side of the number counts.

Simulating the cosmic distribution of neutral hydrogen and its connection with galaxies
Abstract
Modern star-of-the-art cosmological simulations of galaxy formation have become indispensable tools for probing the main processes that are shape the formation and evolution of galaxies. Therefore, they can be used to learn about the cycle of gas in galactic ecosystems. In this context, I will talk about the distribution of neutral hydrogen and metal absorbers in cosmological simulations and the physical conditions they are representing. In addition to comparing the predictions from simulations with observations, I will discuss the inferences we can obtain from cosmological simulations to better understand the distribution of gas in and around galaxies.

Abstract
野辺山太陽電波観測所は、東大東京天文台の施設として1969年に開設された。その後1988年東京天文台は共同利用機関としての国立天文台に改組され、その際野辺山と名大空電研究所の太陽電波グループは合体し今日に至っている。この間野辺山では各種の太陽電波望遠鏡(最初のしかし問題の多かった160MHz太陽電波干渉計-1970年完成、手作りでも多くの観測成果が出た相関型太陽電波干渉計-1978年完成、世界第一級の電波ヘリオグラフ-1992年完成、など)が建設された。本講演では、主として、それらの建設がどのような考えで進められまたどんな困難があったかを述べる。なお、それらの望遠鏡から得られた観測成果については、時間の関係で簡単な紹介にとどめる。

Monte Carlo radiative transfer code SKIRT and the AGN dusty torus
Abstract
I will start by briefly presenting the problem of radiative transfer in dusty astrophysical environments, followed by an overview of SKIRT, the state-of-the-art radiative transfer code based on the Monte Carlo technique.I will present some of the applications of the code, focusing on the modeling of the dusty, obscuring structures in active galactic nuclei (AGN). This structure — dubbed ‘the dusty torus’ — has a major effect on how the AGN looks like, and although the basic picture has been clear for some time, there are still many unresolved issues. We offered a new model of the dusty torus as clumpy two-phase medium, in which high-density clumps are immersed in a smooth dusty medium of much lower density. I will finish by reporting some of our findings from the modeling of the dusty torus infrared emission and outlining our current efforts in understanding these structures.
