- Title
- Small-scale magnetic field evolution and the QUEST project
- Abstract
-
Small-scale magnetic fields are dragged in the photosphere by the fast evolving convective granular motions thereby displaying a wide range of processes with magnetic flux concentrations continuously appearing and disappearing. We study the temporal evolution of the small-scale magnetic elements and analyze events such as magnetic flux emergence, flux cancellation, and magnetic intensification in the photospheric quiet-sun using spectropolarimetric data from ground and space based telescopes.
In addition, by combining multi-instrument data sets, such as obtained from the Solar Optical Telescope onboard the Hinode satellite and from e.g. the IRIS satellite we search for the connection between the photospheric magnetic and velocity field dynamics and a chromospheric response.
The QUEST (QUiet-sun Event STatistics) project at the Leibniz Institute for Solar Physics (KIS) aims to characterise such quiet-sun events by using a systematic approach and analysing groups of such events in multi-wavelength and spatially and temporally diverse data sets. - Facilitator
