Title
Magnetic helicity and tilt of bipolar structures in solar active
regions: the observable statistical data and development of the global dynamo and sunspot formation models
Abstract
There is a handful of observable information on sunspot tilts for about one century, which is supported by the tilt data of magnetic bipolar structures for a few recent decades. Furthermore, for the three recent solar cycles we have direct proxies of magnetic helicity in the solar surface. These two groups of observational data enable us to develop a self-consistent model of the solar dynamo which is constrained both by the sunspot and magnetic helicity dynamics. Furthermore, having recently developed physical models of formation of solar active regions, we may now propose a mechanism of origin and development of tilt helicity due to that process. We compare the results of our model estimates with global dynamo model results and with available data series on tilts.

【活動的小惑星勉強会 7】2017年12月の最接近はPhaethonの何をどこ
まで明らかにしたか?
Abstract

Title
” Galaxy mergers in the nearby universe”
Abstract
Galaxy-galaxy mergers represent one of the most fundamental processes at work in galaxy evolution,
being not only responsible for the growth of mass, but also triggering radical changes in star formation,
AGN activity and morphology. In this talk, I will present observational results from large surveys of
nearby galaxy mergers that have allowed us to obtain a panchromatic view of these processes,
tracing the multi-faceted features of galaxy mergers ranging from their star formation, chemistry,
and nuclear activity to their morphologies and gas content. I will also present new results, obtained
from studying galaxy mergers with the MaNGA survey, which have provided the first statistical
look at spatially resolved profiles of star formation and metallicity in late stage galaxy mergers.

Title
” The case of the missing compact galaxies”
Abstract
Massive compact galaxies, known to be abundant in the past (some 10 billion years ago)
are generally thought to be almost extinct in the present Universe.
Several interpretations have been proposed to explain their surprising transformation between
“ancient compact” into “modern diffuse” massive galaxies. Unexpectedly, recent observational
studies have revealed that, instead of vanishing, the majority of the compact galaxies have
survived, hidden by stellar disks or halos.

Hydrodynamical cosmological simulations, such as Illustris, are used to shed light on this
controversy. Simulations are not only able to reproduce realistic galaxies, but they also span
a sufficiently large volume to include some of the rarest objects, like the compact galaxies.
We use these simulations to track the evolution of individual high-redshift compact galaxies.
Key processes such as expansion, compaction and disk formation around a compact core
have been traced in detail. Additionally, the rather uncommon “relic galaxies”, thought to be
living fossils of the ancient compact galaxies, are also interpreted in the light of the simulations.
