- To make astronomy available for everyone
– the roadmap of the IAU Office for Astronomy Outreach - Abstract

In this presentation, we will tell the stories of how the IAU Beyond IYA2009 plan gave birth to the IAU Office of Astronomy Outreach hosted by NAOJ since 2012 – the strong desire to build infrastructure for making astronomy available for everyone. We will also address the challenges of running the global campaign NameExoWorlds which has more than 500000 public votes, and the Cosmic Light program of the International Year of Light 2015 which has reached more than 2.5 million people worldwide.
Besides, we will both talk a little bit about our background and the professional path that lead us into coming to IAU OAO / NAOJ and Japan.
One important aspect of our IAU OAO team work is supporting the internationalization of Japanese activities, programs, and resources by exploring possible synergies with the international community – one good example is the currently joint organization by our office of the upcoming third NAOJ Universal Design Symposium. Moreover, we will take a deeper look into the relation between our office and our host – NAOJ, international programs.
Finally, we will showcase our plan for the future, setting up the stage to proactively empower volunteers, and also make a better support mechanics to global astronomy outreach communities.
