Formation Mechanisms of HC5N in TMC-1 as Studied by 13C and 15N Isotopic Fractionation
[Abstract]
Observations of 13C isotopic fractionation is key to reveal main formation mechanisms of carbon-chain molecules. HC5N is generally though to be formed by growth of carbon chain of HC3N. I carried out observations of the normal species and the five 13C isotopologues of HC5N in order to confirm its main formation pathway. I found that main formation mechanism of HC5N is ion-molecule reactions involving a nitrogen atom. I also conducted quantitative evaluation of contributions of each pathway using the 14N/15N and 12C/13C ratios, and concluded that about 70% of HC5N molecules have been formed by the ion-molecule reactions involving a nitrogen atom.

On the polarization in the solar atmosphere and how CLASP will measure it
[Abstract]
Following some comments from my previous colloquium I think it is a good time to review in more details how the polarization is created by anisotropic illumination in the solar atmosphere and how the Hanle effect modifies this atomic polarization. I will also explain the measurement strategy behind our instrument (CLASP) and how it was calibrated to measure the Hanle effect of the Lyman-alpha line.
