Research Field

  • Instrument development (especially Integral Field Unit), Observational study on active galactic nuclei

Brief Introduction of Research

  • I am developing observational instruments for optical and infrared astronomy, especially for integral field spectroscopy (IFS). IFS is a new observational method allowing us to obtain spectra over entire field of view in one exposure, which is suitable for detailed studies of extended objects such as galaxies. Due to this powerful feature, recent telescopes usually equip IFS instruments. To add an IFS capability to the Subaru telescope, we have developed an integral field unit (IFU) for the optical spectrograph, FOCAS. Now, we are aiming to develop an IFU for Wide Field Optical Spectrometer (WFOS), one of the first-generation instruments for Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT). WFOS IFU will reveal connection between galaxies and inter-galactic gas in their evolution.
