Summary of Research

  • I am working on astronomical instrumentation for large ground-based telescopes, with a primary focus on research and development on Adaptive Optics (AO) technology. Since ground-based telescopes observe the universe through the Earth's atmosphere, their angular resolution is limited by wavefront distortions caused by atmospheric turbulence. AO systems maximize the optical performance of telescopes by correcting these wavefront distortions in real-time. ULTIMATE-Subaru GLAO, the next-generation Ground Layer Adaptive Optics for the Subaru Telescope, will achieve observations that are twice as sharp as the natural seeing at Maunakea, which is one of the world's premier observing sites, across a wide field of view. To realize this system, I am collaborating with the Australian National University to develop the laser guide star facility and the wavefront sensor subsystems.
