CIBER/LRS
Abstract

A decade of polarization observations with the Submillimeter Array:
Magnetic fields in the earliest and last stages of stellar evolution
Abstract
The magnetic field appears to be an essential ingredient in the star formation process. The dynamical evolution of the molecular clouds, including the formation of the filamentary structures and of the dense cores is thought to be controlled by magnetic fields and interstellar MHD turbulence. During the gravitational collapse of the dense cores, the influence of magnetic fields will determine the fragmentation level and how and when protoplanetary disks are formed around these stars. The magnetic fields also appears to play an essential role in the launching mechanism of jets. Moreover, during their last stages of evolution, stars with < 8 Msun show structures and physical processes that strongly resembles those of young stellar objects: high-velocity jets, tori/disks, all surrounded by a thick circumstellar envelope, which indicate that magnetic fields also play a important at these stages. In this talk, I will review the contribution of the polarimetric SMA observations in the study of magnetic fields in these processes.

Molecular Complexity in Galactic Centers
Abstract
Composition of different molecular species has been used to determine physical conditions of molecular gas in many of galactic star-forming regions. Recently, the early science of ALMA has shown the ability to observe molecular lines of variety of species even in extragalactic sources. In galactic centers, molecular abundances can be affected by X-rays from active galactic nuclei (AGNs), UV-photons from nuclear starbursts, cosmic rays from supernovae, or shock waves from outflows.
In this talk, I will discuss how molecular abundances of different species in an AGN-containing galaxy can be affected by different mechanisms according to the chemical models. Next, I will move onto the circumnuclear disk at the center of Milky Way within a few-parsec from the central black hole Sgr A*. By combining chemical models and line surveys taken by IRAM 30-meter telescope and APEX telescope, I will present how energetic particles such as cosmic rays in the Galactic Center can affect the chemical compositions.

Title
Observational Strategy to Reveal Spatial and Velocity Structures at 0.1-1000 au Scales around High-mass Protostars
Abstract
I will show an observational strategy to reveal spatial and velocity structures at 0.1-1000 au scales around high-mass protostars, especially for an accretion structure from a disk toward a central protostar. In the last decade, interferometric observations at sub-millimeter and infrared wavelengths have demonstrated the existence of a rotating disk around forming high-mass protostars. Accretion processes from the disk and the evolution of the disks, however, remain largely unknown. The methanol maser at 6.7 GHz is expected to trace the rotating disk on the basis of spatial morphology and line of sight velocity structures distributed at 100-1000 au scales, and can be a powerful tool to reveal 3-dimensional (3-D) kinematics on the disk around forming high-mass protostars using VLBI technique. In fact, rotating proper motions were demonstrated in some methanol sources, one of which was detected with infalling components. We have initiated a VLBI monitor project of 36 target methanol maser sources at 6.7 GHz by using the JVN and EAVN since August 2010, to systematically reveal 3-D kinematics on rotating disks at 100-1000 au scales. I will present an initial results of detections of 3-D kinematics in some sources, which show rotating and expanding motions possibly on the disks. The 6.7 GHz methanol maser has shown another characteristics in flux variations, “periodic”. The periodic variations have been detected in thirteen of the methanol maser sources so far, in which the observed period ranges between 30 and 668 days. We note one of various mechanism causing periodic variations, “the stellar pulsation of high-mass protostars”. This model predicts that the period-luminosity (P-L) relation can be described with the power law. It is predicted that the P-L relation indicates the correlation among the periodicity, the luminosity, and the accretion rate during the pulsational instability phase. If the relation can be verified by observations, we can estimate the accretion rate onto the surface of the protostar at 0.1 au scale as well as its mass and radius solely from the periodicity of the pulsation. The estimation for these physical parameters is quite difficult even using ALMA. The 6.7 GHz methanol masers with periodic flux variations are the suitable targets to observationally verify the P-L relation. To increase the number of sources, we have initiated daily monitoring observations by using Hitachi 32-m radio telescope since December 2012. I will present an initial results of new detections of the periodic flux variation sources with the periods of 55-210 days, and the latest P-L relation updated with newly detected sources. Finally, I will also talk about future plans to reveal spatial and velocity structures of the disk at 10-100 au scales around high-mass protostars by using ALMA, and accretion rate structures in the radial directions on the basis of synergy among VLBI, single-dish monitor, and ALMA observations.

Abstract

Abstract

「Square Kilometre Array
