The Department of Astronomical Science has changed the application process for applicants residing abroad (Privately Financed Students/ MEXT Scholarship Students through University Recommendation). The new process will be applied to students who enroll in or after April 2017.

The Department of Astronomical Science will use the following score(s) to select applicants who will start their courses in April 2017 or later.

Applicants for the five-year doctoral course

Applicants for the three-year doctoral course

All applicants must take the test(s) listed above and submit the score(s) by the application deadline. Only scores recorded within two years before the application deadline date are acceptable.

Applicants who have taken more than half of their high school classes in English do not need to submit an English Score Record, regardless of their nationality or the place they were born. The applicants have to ask the Graduate Education Support Office in NAOJ (daigakuin[at]nao.ac.jp) in advance of application and ensure that they are eligible to skip submitting English score record.
